Whether you're selling your car or buying used, knowing its true market value saves you from leaving money on the table or overpaying. The UAE car market has its own unique factors that affect value — and some of them might surprise you.
How to Check Your Car's Value
Start with these online tools to get a baseline:
- Dubicars Value Tool: Free instant estimate based on make, model, year, and mileage. Good starting point but doesn't account for condition.
- AutoTrader UAE: Search for similar cars listed for sale. The asking price is usually 5-10% above actual selling price.
- CarSwitch: Their inspection-based valuation is more accurate but requires listing the car.
- Facebook Marketplace / Dubizzle: Check what similar cars are listed at. Real market data.
Glenn's tip: Check at least 3 sources and look at actual sold prices, not just asking prices. What someone lists a car for and what it actually sells for can differ by 10-20%.
Factors That Increase Value
- Full service history — this is the single biggest value factor. A car with full stamps can be worth 15-20% more than one without.
- GCC specification — GCC-spec cars are worth 10-20% more than imports (and for good reason)
- Low mileage — under 15,000km/year is considered low in the UAE
- Desirable colour — white, black, and grey hold value best in the UAE
- Agency maintained — though this matters less than people think for older cars
- No accident history — a clean record commands a premium

Know your car's true condition before selling.
Factors That Decrease Value
- Missing or incomplete service history — biggest red flag for buyers
- Non-GCC spec — American imports especially suffer in resale
- Accident history — even minor accidents drop value by 10-30%
- High mileage — over 20,000km/year raises concern
- Multiple owners — 3+ owners in a few years suggests problems
- Unusual colours — that lime green wrap seemed fun at the time...
- Modifications — aftermarket modifications usually decrease value
Depreciation by Brand
| Brand | 3-Year Depreciation |
|---|---|
| Toyota, Lexus | 25–35% |
| Nissan, Honda | 35–45% |
| BMW, Mercedes, Audi | 45–55% |
| Range Rover, Porsche | 40–55% |
| Chinese brands (MG, Chery) | 55–70% |
What Our Customers Say
Real feedback about their vehicle inspection
"We had a pre purchase inspection done by the PWG crew. As Australian expats we went with a recommendation from a friend that had a great experience with PWG and I couldn't recommend them enough. Glen was very clear, understanding and flexible and the inspection was turned around very quickly. Highly recommend power works if you're considering a pre purchase inspection. We'll be back for servicing after such a great experience."
Graham Gee
"I cannot recommend these guys highly enough, Glen and DJ are so professional and experts in their field. I had a major impact to the side of my vehicle (third party fault), the insurance company were awful, they insisted I took my car to a certain dealership of their choice. Picked the car up, drove it on to Al Khail Road, lost control at 50km/ph, took it back to the garage, they were simply not interested, despite the car was not safe to drive. Took it to Powerworks, they done a full inspection and Safety report, and fixed the car properly, explained everything with video support, and met all their deadlines for completion of the work. All a bit long winded, but hopefully this explains why Powerworks are a different class!"
Peter Winder
"If I could give these guys 6 stars, I would. I came to Powerworks after terrible service at other local garages and realised, as many other people say on their reviews, I should have just picked the guys with the best reviews, first. Communication, service, knowledge, personality, everything about the garage and the space is completely on point. Diagnosed and repaired my Range Rover in 3 days, as where other local garages had her for 3 weeks and were nowhere near close to fixing her. From the biggest to the smallest jobs, I get constant updates and videos on the cars progress, I never need to wonder what's going on. They find parts that are either the best they recommend or budget friendly that can help the wallet."

Range Rover ownerWhen to Sell
The best time to sell is typically just before a major service is due (timing belt, major gearbox service) or before the warranty expires. January-March is generally the best selling season in UAE as new residents arrive and bonus season means buyers have cash.
