Car Repair Costs in Dubai: Average Prices for Common Jobs

One of the biggest frustrations I hear from customers is not knowing whether they're being charged fairly. Dubai has some brilliant garages — and some that'll charge you double for half the work. Here's my honest guide to what common repairs should actually cost.

Common Repair Prices in Dubai

Repair Japanese/Korean European Luxury
Oil & filter change AED 199–300 AED 350–500 AED 500–800
Brake pads (front) AED 299–500 AED 500–900 AED 800–1,500
Brake discs & pads (front) AED 600–900 AED 1,000–1,800 AED 1,500–3,500
Battery replacement AED 299–450 AED 600–1,000 AED 800–1,200
AC regas AED 199–300 AED 250–400 AED 300–500
AC compressor AED 1,200–2,000 AED 2,000–3,500 AED 3,000–5,000
Timing belt kit AED 800–1,500 AED 1,500–3,500 AED 2,500–5,000
Suspension (per corner) AED 400–700 AED 800–1,500 AED 1,500–4,000
Gearbox service AED 400–700 AED 600–1,500 AED 1,000–2,500
Engine diagnostics AED 150–250 AED 200–350 AED 300–500

Why European Cars Cost More to Repair

Three reasons European repairs cost more:

  1. Parts are more expensive — a BMW brake sensor alone costs what an entire set of Toyota pads costs
  2. Labour takes longer — German engineering means more components to remove and replace
  3. Specialist tools required — diagnostic software and special tooling adds to overheads

That said, the gap between Japanese and European repair costs at an independent garage is much smaller than at the dealer.

How to Avoid Being Overcharged

  • Always get an itemised quote — parts and labour should be listed separately
  • Get 2-3 quotes for major work — but don't automatically choose the cheapest
  • Ask to see old parts — a reputable garage will show you what was replaced
  • Beware of "package deals" — sometimes they include work you don't need
  • Check Google reviews — patterns in reviews reveal a garage's true character

When to Get a Second Opinion

My honest advice: If a garage is quoting you more than 50% above the ranges I've listed, or if they're recommending replacing components that seem fine, get a second opinion. At Powerworks, we're always happy to give you a free assessment and honest quote — even if you choose to have the work done elsewhere.
